How is the route to Mangartsko Sedlo?
From Bovec, cycle along the state road in the direction of the Predel border crossing. The road leads past the Kluže fortress, along the Koritnica river, through the villages of Log pod Mangartom and Strmec, and after the Pri Mlinču viaduct, the Mangartsko sedlo road branches off to the right.
The Mangartsko sedlo road runs high under the walls of Slovenia’s fourth highest mountain, Mangart (2,679 m), after which it was named. The highest paved road in Slovenia is 12 kilometers long, its average gradient is a good 9 percent, it has 17 bends, 5 unlit tunnels and countless incredible, breathtaking views. For all of the above, numerous world cycling magazines rightly rank it among the pearls of cycling climbs. The road takes you to the Mangartsko sedlo, from where you return to Bovec along the same route.
What equipment do I need?
Bike: Set off on your journey with a well-prepared bike. You can rent gravel, mountain and electric mountain bikes from us. If you are not sure about your fitness level, we recommend choosing an electric bike.
Basic repair kit: Tools, spare tube and pump.
Personal equipment: Helmet, comfortable cycling clothes and shoes, clothing for all weather conditions, gloves, glasses, sunscreen, water, food.
Bike light: There are 5 unlit tunnels on Mangart road, where you will need a light to safely pass through, even during the day. If your bike does not have a light, you can rent it from us.
Weather
The weather conditions on the Mangart Pass are extremely unpredictable. Here, Alpine air currents meet Mediterranean ones, and a sudden change can leave you shivering on the hottest summer day. Always check the weather forecast before you set off!
